The Rhine Falls is the largest waterfall in Europe. It is located in Switzerland, about four miles west beneath the city of Schaffhausen.
The Rhine Falls at an altitude of 23 meters and a width of 150 meters. The scour in the impact zone has a depth of 13 meters. With water flowing down the Rhine in the falls plunge 373 cubic meters of water per second over the rocks (average summer flow: 700 m³ / s). The highest runoff was established in 1965 with 1250 cubic meters, measured the lowest amount of runoff in 1921 with 95 cubic meters per second. Even in the years 1880, 1913 and 1953, the outflow was similarly low.
Fish except the eel does not overcome the upstream Rhine Falls. The eel meanders sideways (outside of the riverbed in the country), high above the rocks. More info at http://www.rheinfall.ch
